The holiday season has officially begun, and that means one thing—time for Christmas music! I love the classics, but as someone who listened to “Santa Baby” a million too many times while working retail in the ’90s, I always appreciate something new for the festive season.
On that note, Latina country singer Kat Luna just dropped a brand-new Christmas song, “Evergreen,” plus versions of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” in English and Spanglish.
Give them a listen. “Evergreen” is an original love song perfect for a romantic holiday date night by the fire, complete with mistletoe. And her rich, warm vocals are perfect for “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”—add a hot cup of cocoa and an ugly Christmas sweater, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s December 25th.
While one of her versions of the classic Christmas tune is fully in English, the Spanglish version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” alternates between Spanish and English lyrics. That’s fitting for Kat, a first-generation Cuban American born in Miami. Growing up, her “Cuban Cowboy” grandfather introduced her to a range of musical influences, ranging from country legend Toby Keith to Cuban singer Celia Cruz.
Formerly of the duo Kat & Alex, Kat made her Opry debut as a solo artist in February. If you love her new Christmas music, you’ll want to give a listen to her Billboard-acclaimed debut EP, That Girl, which came out earlier this year, too.
