Some artists flirt with the shadows. CrowJane builds entire worlds inside them. The Los Angeles-based musician, vocalist, and visual artist has returned with two striking new singles, “Songs of Sparrows” and “Reign,” offering a powerful glimpse into her upcoming album ‘Odium’ and further cementing her place among darkwave and post-punk’s most compelling modern voices.

Known offstage as Heather Galipo, CrowJane has spent the last several years carving out a distinctive artistic identity that draws equally from gothic rock, death rock, post-punk, industrial music, and cinematic storytelling. Since the release of her acclaimed debut album ‘Mater Dolorosa,’ she has steadily expanded her sound while earning praise for music that feels haunting, fearless, and emotionally immersive.

The newest single, “Songs of Sparrows,” leans heavily into proto-goth textures and death rock atmosphere. Angular guitars, noir-inspired tension, and CrowJane’s shape-shifting vocal performance create a song that feels suspended between decades. Echoes of early post-punk pioneers remain present throughout, but the track never settles into nostalgia. Instead, it transforms those influences into something urgent and alive.

Accompanying the release is a visually arresting video inspired by German Expressionist cinema and the aesthetics of 1980s death rock culture. Directed by Zachary T. Crawford with cinematography by Dante White Aliano, the clip blends dramatic shadow play, stark lighting, and underground club imagery into a world that feels both vintage and contemporary.

“The shadow play in some of the shots, the front on face shots, the lighting, the edit were all German expressionism inspired,” CrowJane explains. “The band’s look and industrial feel is where the 80s inspo comes in.”

The release follows “Reign,” a pounding and confrontational single that drew inspiration from pioneering electronic duo Suicide. Built on relentless rhythms, industrial textures, and a fierce vocal performance, the track takes direct aim at wealth, power, and modern oligarchy. It revealed another side of CrowJane’s songwriting, one equally comfortable with political commentary and personal catharsis.

Together, the two singles showcase the impressive range CrowJane is bringing to ‘Odium.’ While “Reign” pushes forward with mechanical force and punk aggression, “Songs of Sparrows” explores atmosphere, mood, and emotional tension. Both tracks share a commitment to fearless expression and an instinct for transforming darkness into art.

The recordings were produced by Paul Roessler of The Screamers and Daniel Munoz of Cinema Strange, two figures whose own histories within underground music make them fitting collaborators for CrowJane’s evolving vision. Their production allows the songs to remain raw and immediate while giving every texture room to breathe.

Beyond music, Galipo’s creative life extends into film and television, where she has built an acclaimed career as a makeup artist. Her credits include productions such as ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘The Last of Us,’ ‘Mulan,’ and ‘Toolbox Murders.’ That cinematic perspective is evident throughout CrowJane’s work, where visual storytelling and sonic atmosphere often feel inseparable.

With ‘Odium’ arriving later this year, “Songs of Sparrows” and “Reign” stand as powerful opening chapters. Dark, stylish, and emotionally charged, the songs highlight an artist continuing to push deeper into her own creative territory while helping shape the future of modern gothic music.
