Marius Borg Høiby has been asked to be let out of prison to move into a royal palace, it has been reported. The eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit was previously charged with 39 counts, including four of rape.
The Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen has reported that, if the tribunal were to approve, the 29-year-old could leave the prison in Oslo and move to a private residence under strict rules of control, supervision, and limited mobility until a sentence is handed out.
It has been reported that the Norwegian royal would move to Skaugum, the estate and royal residence where Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit are based.
René Ibsen, who is one of the three lawyers representing the royal, confirmed that Skaugum is a viable home for Borg.
They said: “He no longer has his home in Frogner, so we have to find another solution for his future home. The home he had in Skaugum was empty, so it made sense for him to live there.”
They also concluded: “There will probably be a judicial hearing next week”.
It was reported back in March that he would not be released due to a “high risk” of reoffending.
At the time, it was reported: “The court finds that the continued imprisonment is sufficiently justified and does not constitute a disproportionate interventio.”
