For the 41-year-old mother living in Chicago, the best part was seeing her husband make the day so special for their kids
Parents often view taking their kids to the movies as a way to keep them entertained for a few hours while they sit back and relax, but Laura Vicens’ husband decided to turn the simple outing into a memorable event.
What started as a family joke quickly became a viral sensation in May 2026, when he decided to dress their five children as tiny Yodas and suit up as the Mandalorian himself for the opening weekend of The Mandalorian & Grogu.
The adorable sight of five little green-clad moviegoers rolling into the theater led a video posted by Vicens to rack up more than 10 million views on TikTok. But for her, the day wasn’t about internet fame; it was about watching her husband create the kind of childhood memory that lasts long after the costumes come off, she tells PEOPLE.
“These are the types of things they remember forever!” Vicens, 41, says. “I think it is so important to tap into that side [of their imagination] and let them be kids and have fun!”
The idea behind the unforgettable outing wasn’t the result of months of planning. Instead, it grew from a passing joke that snowballed into something too good not to bring to life.
“I think we made a joke one day about how instead of one baby Yoda, we had five, and it just gathered momentum from there,” Vicens recalls.
With 5-year-old twins and 2-and-a-half-year-old triplet boys, the family already tends to attract attention whenever they head out together. Adding a Star Wars theme only amplified the fun.
“When we go places, we usually get a lot of turning heads anyway because we have so many kids, and we thought how funny and cute it would be if we had them all dressed up and he was the Mandalorian to go see the movie,” Vicens explains.

Although the costumes may have been the main attraction for everyone around them, the outing carried another layer of significance for the family.
Despite growing up a Star Wars fan herself and having a husband who has watched every movie and series, this was the first time they got to introduce the franchise to their children, making the moment even more special.

And while her husband headed into the theater with five excited little Yodas, Vicens did something many parents can appreciate: she took a much-needed break.
As a stay-at-home mom who spends much of the week caring for five young children while her husband balances a full-time job and a growing business, she welcomed the rare opportunity for a little time to herself.
“He was happy to spend the time with the kids and have fun being goofy with them,” Vicens shares. “He is so good at bringing the fun, especially when he gets home from work, and I’m usually tapped. He can always get everyone smiling and laughing at the end of the day.”

At the end of the day, the viral TikTok clip gave millions of people a glimpse of a sweet family moment, but what stayed with Vicens most wasn’t the online attention. It was the reminder of why she built a life with her husband in the first place.
Watching him embrace the chaos, lean into the fun and make their children feel like they were part of their own Star Wars adventure left a lasting impression, she tells PEOPLE.
“As a wife, it just reiterated that marrying my husband was the best decision I ever made. He is the best dad to these kids, and the only one I want to tackle this crazy life with,” Vicens shares. “I feel very lucky and blessed to have him as a partner, and that we have all these little ones. It is a challenge for sure, but I would not change a thing.”
