Actor Daisy Shah recently opened up about the Kannada film industry’s obsession with female actors’ navels. In a recent interview, Shah shared her experiences, describing how this focus overshadowed more substantial aspects of filmmaking. Her comments have sparked discussions about gender dynamics and portrayal in regional films.
Shah highlighted a lack of depth in directing female actors compared to their male counterparts in the Kannada film industry. She noted that she was merely told what expressions to give, while male actors received more detailed direction with backstories. This disparity was partly due to her unfamiliarity with the Kannada language.
Discussing the industry’s focus, Shah recounted, “When I was doing a Kannada film, during my off days I watched TV, and in all the Kannada songs I saw… there was a particular actor, and in all his songs, either a fruit salad or a vegetable salad was being made on the heroine’s navel with close-up shots.”
Shah, who started as an assistant choreographer before transitioning to acting, has worked in both Kannada and Bollywood films. Her career began with roles in Kannada movies like ‘Bhadra’ and ‘Bodyguard’, eventually leading to her Bollywood debut in ‘Jai Ho’ alongside Salman Khan.
Recently, Daisy was seen in Amjad Khan’s web series, ‘Red Room’, which starred Amit Gaur, Anuj Sachdeva, Reena Aggarwal and Reeva Chaudharay in pivotal roles. Apart from her acting projects, she is also active on the YouTube space.
