Clive Davis, music titan, dies at 94

Music icon Clive Davis dies at 94 after shaping stars like Whitney Houston and Alicia Keys and transforming the music industry.

Daryl Hall is opening up about a major health scare, revealing he recently underwent a kidney transplant and is already starting to feel better.

The former Hall & Oates frontman revealed he underwent a kidney transplant “recently,” crediting “a very kind and generous living donor” for making it possible.

“It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I’m already starting to feel better,” he wrote in a June 23 social media post. “It was, according to my doctors, a complete success!”

The 79-year-old shared that he “should be back to normal in a few months” and plans on returning to the stage for “more music and lots of Daryl’s House shows.”

The “Bring It on Home” singer has previously opened up about other health struggles, specifically his experience with Lyme disease, a tick-borne bacterial infection.

Daryl Hall on living with Lyme disease: ‘Good days and bad days’

According to Billboard, Hall’s condition came to light as his illness forced him to postpone 16 Hall & Oates tour dates in the summer of 2005. Hall was infected in the 2000s and diagnosed in 2006, according to the Bay Area Lyme Foundation.

Speaking with Seacoast Online, part of the USA TODAY Network, three years after his diagnosis, Hall said the symptoms of the disease can come and go.

Symptoms of the disease, which can affect the kidneys, among other organs, can sometimes last more than a year, varying from “mild lingering” to “debilitating,” according to Harvard Medical School. Muscle aches, fatigue, joint pain and stiffness, headaches, and difficulty concentrating are some of the more “persistent” side effects.

“I have good days and bad days,” Hall said. “I was fine for four months, then I might have tremors, headaches, fatigue. It’s like a roving street gang of germs. There’s no cure, but you can control it.”

“It manifests in so many ways. It can lead to heart disease, depression. It can be so serious that people have died. It’s a battle,” Hall added.

Daryl Hall rose to fame with John Oates decades ago

After meeting in Philadelphia in the late 1960s, Hall famously teamed with John Oates for more than 40 years, producing eight platinum-selling albums (sales of 1 million or more) and another six certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Hit singles included “Rich Girl,” “She’s Gone,” “Private Eyes,” “Sara Smile,” “Maneater,” and “I Can’t Go For That.” Considered the most successful duo in rock history, Hall & Oates’ music video for “Kiss On My List” was played on MTV’s first day of broadcast.

Their mix of rock, pop, and blue-eyed soul led to the duo’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Hall and Oates last performed together in 2023, Rolling Stone reported.

In November of that year, Hall filed a lawsuit against Oates stemming from Oates’ attempt to sell his share of their joint venture. The two settled in August 2025, Rolling Stone reported.

Hall began his show Live from Daryl’s House in November 2007. Initially made available online, the show was broadcast on MTV Live, and now all episodes are available on Hall’s YouTube channel.
