One half of the 80s new wave duo Soft Cell, David Ball, has died at the age of 66.
He passed away in his sleep, The Guardian reports.
Ball met His creative partner with Soft Cell, lead singer Marc Almond, while they were college students in 1979 in Leeds.
Just two years later — the duo had the number one hit in the UK with “Tainted Love.” It soon spread all over the world and the track remains a popular choice at karaoke.
Almond, wrote a lengthy tribute on their website.
“Thank you Dave for being an immense part of my life and for the music you gave me. I wouldn’t be where I am without you,” he ends the thoughtful note with.
The duo recently reunited for a 2025 tour which included a stop at Northerly Island on June 20.
Almond noted that the pair just finished their new album which is scheduled to be out next year.
