Made in Manitoba artist David Bracken has released a new song, “I Will Praise,” which came while preparing a sermon for a Winnipeg church.
“The book of James says to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds,” Bracken says.
“In the midst of suffering, I can admit that my first reactions are not, ‘Oh, goody, trials. I love these things. It’s going to build perseverance, which builds character and gives me hope.’ Our human nature is like, no, I’m not going to consider it pure joy when I face trials of many kinds. When the storms of life hit, that’s just how we are.”

Bracken says he hopes the song will encourage listeners. “We have an enemy that whispers in our ear on a daily basis and he says things like, ‘Hey, you see that valley in front of you, you know it’s way too low. You’ll never get through it.’ He can be pretty convincing when we’re feeling low. In the midst of those struggles, God has given us the strength to not give up, to not let go. And when we cry out to God and we praise Him regardless of what we’re going through, He is the one who renews our strength.”
While working on “I Will Praise” Bracken had the opportunity to work with fellow Manitoban, Tyson Unrah from The Color. “
The fellow I normally work with is in Grand Prairie, so I’m not really with him. To be in the same room with someone as talented and experienced as Tyson was definitely a new thing for me. We can discuss things back and forth, and I can play my guitar, and he can play the piano.”
While Unrau and Bracken have both been in the music industry for several years, Bracken says he was excited to learn from Unrau’s success. “We’ve probably been in the industry around the same amount of time, but he’s actually reached a level of success. They have multiple awards; they’ve won Juno awards, they’ve done all these different things as The Color and to gain that experience from him in this song was something that I believe is truly going to see this song do way better than I could make it do on my own.”
After hearing the song, Bracken hopes that listeners will be able to worship with it. “Everyone goes through problems, but it’s that encouragement that we can praise in the midst of those problems that will help us get through.”
