David Byrne is off the market, says he is getting married ‘this week’

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is off the market.

The 73-year-old announced on Instagram earlier this week that he is getting married — and he’s doing it this week, too — to his fiancée, Mala Gaonkar, 55.

He announced just three weeks ago that the two were engaged.

“I’m getting married this week and made an almost entirely instrumental playlist while our guests eat an amazing and spicy dinner,” he wrote.

“My sense is that words & lyrics can be distracting — the ear goes to them, especially if it’s a song one knows,” he added. “So, I opted for buoyant instrumentals that will create a hopeful and joyous atmosphere … and that folks can also ignore at the same time.”

People Magazine reported that Byrne first referred to Gaonkar as his fiancée last month.

“My fiancée will sometimes come at me with greasy hands, ready to smear y face,” he said. “And at one point I thought, ‘What if I wake up and really looked younger?’ But there’s a message, too. About how people judge us by the way we look. You learn a lesson you didn’t expect at the start.”

The two have a history, according to People, having co-written an immersive theater performance for the Stanford Arts Institute in 2016.

Byrne also had a new album — “Who is the Sky?” — set to drop this week.

“The reaction I’ve gotten from people is they said, ‘Oh, we need this right ow. This is what we need right now,’ which I take it to mean that it’s an album that’s playful,” he said. “It’s a lot of joy and all that in the record. And I think people see that as a resistance or a pushback to what they see and what I see is happening in the world. So a lot of things where we’re all divisive and separated from one another, and the record is in some ways a counterforce to that.”
