The emotional visual for a new version of “Forevermore” comes just over a week after the vocalist announced his retirement

Just over a week after he announced his retirement, singer David Coverdale has shared his final music video with Eighties hair metal legends, Whitesnake.

The clip is for a new version of “Forevermore,” the title track from Whitesnake’s 2011 album, which is about to be reissued. This version was produced by Coverdale and features a fresh orchestral arrangement from Hook City Strings.

The dramatic new rendition of the song is an apt choice for Coverdale’s final music video with Whitesnake. Directed by Payton Murphy, the visual captures Coverdale and Hook City Strings performing the song in a simple studio space, laced with white, with photos of Coverdale and his loved ones in the background.

Coverdale announced his retirement on social media on Nov. 13, acknowledging that, after more than 50 years, he had realized “that it ’s time really for me to hang up my rock & roll platform shoes and skintight jeans.”

He continued: “It’s time for me to call it a day. I love you dearly. I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey: all the musicians, the crew, the fans, and the family. It’s amazing. But it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement, and I hope you can appreciate that.”

Along with fronting Whitesnake — who became one of the biggest bands of the Eighties with hits like “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” — Coverdale sang with Deep Purple and Jimmy Page. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 as a member of Deep Purple. Coverdale was touring with Whitesnake as recently as 2022, but a sinus infection prevented him from continuing.
