Dax Shepard is already planning for his future grandchildren—potentially.
On a recent episode of his hit podcast, “Armchair Expert,” the actor revealed that he offered to help his 11-year-old daughter, Delta, pay to freeze her eggs once she turns 18. Shepard, who shares Delta and 12-year-old daughter Lincoln with wife Kristen Bell, explained that the offer came after Delta expressed how much she “can’t wait to have a baby.”
“She’s saying she wants to have a baby, and I said, ‘When do you think you’ll have your first child? When you turn 18?’ I want to be supportive of whatever,” Shepard recounted on the Jan. 5 episode. “I don’t want to plant any seeds that I’d be judgmental or whatever.”
Delta said no to having kids at 18, but wasn’t sure exactly when she would want to start a family. “I said, ‘If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about that,’” Shepard revealed.
The “Parenthood” star said his reasoning was rooted in the “wrestling” match he knows many women face when trying to balance a career with the desire to become a mother. He also made sure to acknowledge his own “luck and privilege,” noting that this medical move “isn’t an option for most people.”
Shepard and Bell have previously made headlines for their unconventional parenting style. In 2021, Bell admitted on “The View” that they don’t bathe their children every day, joking that she is a “big fan of waiting for the stink.”
Shepard has also shared that their daughters are allowed to use curse words inside the house “when it’s called for.” He views them as merely “noises that come out of your mouth,” though he emphasizes the importance of understanding context and social boundaries.
