New Green Lantern series image reveals Aaron Pierre and Kelly Macdonald
A new image from DC Studios’ upcoming Lanterns series shows Aaron Pierre and Kelly Macdonald in character. Pierre plays John Stewart, a Green Lantern recruit, while Macdonald makes her first appearance as Sheriff Kerry. Monitors on set displayed the production stills during filming inside a large, dimly lit space with high ceilings and industrial walls.
Variety reported that Macdonald officially joined the cast as Sheriff Kerry in October 2024. The character is “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town,” whose resilience, shaped by a complex past, anchors her when the community’s secrets emerge. In the series, Sheriff Kerry connects to Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and serves as his love interest.
Director James Hawes spoke about the tone of the project in an interview with Phase Hero. “Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof, you know they have done things like Ozark, True Detective and the script has got such wit. So much character and it’s like a buddy cop movie and I have talked about this in sort of True Detective, Fargo, No Country for Old Men naturalistic. It’s a buddy cop movie and somebody flies.”
Showrunner Chris Mundy said Lanterns would not “sacrifice the magic of the source material,” adding that the goal was “to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion” (via Warner Bros. The creative team includes Damon Lindelof, Tom King, and James Hawes, who directs the opening episodes. The cast features Garrett Dillahunt as William Macon, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Paul Ben-Victor as Antaan.
