BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Could Baton Rouge see more major live concerts in the future? It’s likely now that Death Valley Live, a new initiative, aims to bring in more “world-class entertainment” and events to LSU’s Tiger Stadium.
Starting next week, upcoming events will be announced. The initiative is a partnership among LSU Athletics, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership and Visit Baton Rouge.
“We are very excited to open our doors to Tiger Stadium for a world-class entertainment experience,” LSU Athletics Director Verge Ausberry said. “There is no place like Death Valley and these special events will without question foster community engagement, cultural celebration and economic growth around our city and for our state.”
It’s a “bold new chapter” for Baton Rouge’s entertainment scene, according to Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership CEO Lori Melancon. “Stadium shows are one component of the music ecosystem that we are building together to make the Capital Region a more attractive place to live, work, and play.”
Visit Baton Rouge CEO Jill Kidder said the city is becoming a “premier” destination for big events. Death Valley Live is expected to make a major economic impact on Baton Rouge. Earlier this month, the Metro Council approved tax rebates for promoters for two spring events.
LSU Tiger Stadium included in iconic venues list
Tiger Stadium, a 101-year-old venue that has previously been ranked as the best and most “hostile” college football environment, can hold over 100,00 people. The stadium’s centennial was celebrated with major upgrades to its video boards, speakers, and new LED lights.
Famously, in 2022, a seismograph recorded an “earthquake” as country singer Garth Brooks performed “Callin’ Baton Rouge” at the sold-out Tiger Stadium concert.
People will need to visit a webpage dedicated to Death Valley Live for information about ticketing and event information when it becomes available.
