The band’s legendary songs rocked the stage at Isleta. But for Albuquerque couple Sophia Urquidez and Zayden Lopez, the most memorable part of the night came when the spotlight turned onto them. “They would like me to announce that they are about to have a little baby, and it’s a girl. Zayden and Sophia, congratulations,” said the band’s singer after stopping the show. The band stopped the music to announce the gender reveal for the couple, leading to what some fans may call “hysteria.”
“Definitely a core memory,” said Zayden.
“I, like, blacked out. I didn’t know what was happening. I just heard my name, and he starts shaking me, and I’m like, what the heck is happening?” said Sophia.
The surprise was orchestrated by none other than Def Leppard super-fan and the soon-to-be great-grandma. “She had the meet and greet, and nobody knew anything but her, so she handed them a letter, and then they stopped the show and they did the reveal,” said Zayden.
The couple reflected on being able to share that rock star moment with their loved ones. “It was just really special for not only her, but us and, of course, the baby,” said Zayden.
“It means a lot,” said Sophia. “To have both of our families there…my dad and brother were there and his family, it was just really cool and meant a lot.”
As for becoming first-time parents, Sophia and Zayden are ready to rock-n-roll. “It’s a little scary being so young, but we’ve become very excited, and we have a lot of support from everybody and our family,” said Zayden.
The baby is due early next year. The couple doesn’t have a name yet, but do plan to raise their daughter on Def Leppard music and show her the video of the gender reveal.
