Defending Courage returns with new music and stories from local veterans

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A stage production honoring the World War II Nisei soldiers is returning to Honolulu.

“Defining Courage” tells the story of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service Japanese American soldiers who fought while many of their families were incarcerated in the United States World War II camps.

The production blends live storytelling, historic and newly filmed footage, eyewitness interviews, and live performances of its entirely original score.

Performances will take place at the McKinley High School Auditorium.

The building still bears bullet holes from WWII, making it a uniquely powerful venue.

Emmy Award–winning ABC7 Los Angeles News Anchor David Ono hosts and produces the show. Music is by Enzo De Roza and Sheridan Seyfried and is performed by the RAISE Choir, Daniel Ho, and Harold Payne.

“To perform this show in the very hallways and auditorium that shaped so many of these heroes, and to do so with their names watching over us, will be unlike anything we’ve done before,” said Ono.

For the first time, a show on Maui will be performed at Henry Perrine Baldwin High School Auditorium.
