Delta Adds Anime to In-Flight Entertainment Lineup

Delta Air Lines is bringing a new in-flight entertainment option to more than 900 of its aircraft worldwide.

The Atlanta-based carrier is launching an exclusive new partnership with global anime brand Crunchyroll to bring a curated library of anime content to the majority of its flights.

A huge amount of anime content will be available for Delta customers to stream on their flights later this year. Crunchyroll will add 50,000 episodes of series and films, 25,000 hours of content, and more than 2,000 unique titles. “Fans can go deep on one series or sample one episode of many series – from action to adventure, romance and more,” said Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll.

The content will be available on more than 169,000 seat-back screens and across the new Delta Sync in-flight Wi-Fi network. Delta Skymiles members who log on to Delta Sync to view the anime videos on a personal device will also get a special perk: a 24-hour free trial of Crunchyroll’s anime library to use during or after their flight. The library has more than 17 million global subscribers.

The partnership will be the first of its kind for an airline. “At Delta, we see every flight as an opportunity for discovery,” said Julieta McCurry, Delta’s V.P. of in-flight entertainment and connectivity. “Whether you’re diving into the anime genre for the first time or continuing a favorite series, bringing Crunchyroll to Delta gives our customers access to a world of storytelling while onboard and beyond. It’s part of Delta’s commitment to delivering industry-leading entertainment that reflects the passions and interests of our customers.”

Delta has been exploring several innovative partnerships for onboard entertainment, including a potential collaboration with DraftKings for in-flight gaming announced earlier this year, as well as a partnership with YouTube for a selection of ad-free creator videos, podcasts, and music options.
