Denzel Washington’s playlist might be more modern than fans would think. The acclaimed actor recently gave a shoutout to Samara Cyn and Smino, and his Highest 2 Lowest costar rapper A$AP Rocky revealed Washington keeps Moneybagg Yo and NLE Choppa in his rotation.
In his fandom, the 70-year-old also shares music with his wife Pauletta, and at a Los Angeles special event screening the aforementioned Spike Lee joint, she revealed how he put her on to the Bronx chart-topper behind “Bickenhead.”
“How could I not? By playing it… just playing music… and I love music!” explained the Oscar winner to REVOLT of being inspired to play his role as David King, a music mogul known for having “the best ear in the business.”
“He introduces me to a lot,” Pauletta chimed in. “You introduced me to Cardi B,” she recalled as the Gladiator II star nodded in agreement.
Washington’s appreciation for Cardi B dates back to at least 2018, after she broke the mainstream mold with “Bodak Yellow” in the previous year. While on a press run for Broadway’s The Iceman Cometh, he rapped, “He buy me Yves Saint Laurent, and a new whip,” from the party anthem’s first verse.
Luckily for Denzel Washington, the mother of three has shared details on her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I The Drama, and dropped a new single, “Imaginary Playerz.” Due next month, the album follows her award-winning Invasion Of Privacy debut released in 2018.
Am I The Drama is listed as featuring 23 tracks, including “Imaginary Playerz,” “Outside,” 2021’s “Up,” and the 2020 Megan Thee Stallion collab, “WAP.”
“Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, light, and loss,” detailed the 32-year-old. “Seven years I gave them grace, but now I give them hell. I learned power’s not given; it’s taken. I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back; I’m beyond. I’m not your villain; I’m your karma. The time is here. The time is now.”
