Designer Marc Jacobs Goes Unrecognized in His Own Store in Hilarious Video

Turns out, Marc Jacobs doesn’t need to go incognito in his own store.

In a TikTok shared on Monday, June 1, the fashion designer, 63, is seen strolling into a Marc Jacobs boutique inside an airport. “… I’m also a customer,” he captioned the post.

He proceeds to browse the merchandise and then starts chatting with the salesperson, seemingly going unrecognized by them the entire time.

“Let’s see if we can go the whole way without her realizing who she’s helping,” Jacobs says to the camera in one clip.

“Not bad, cute little selection for the airport,” he later comments, adding with a laugh, “Nice to go unnoticed in your own shop.”

At the end of the video, Jacobs reaches out to shake the salesperson’s hand as they hand him his purchases. The clip has no audio, but a caption pops up to indicate that he’s saying, “I’m Marc Jacobs, it’s nice to meet you.”

TikTok viewers are getting a kick out of the interaction.

“Marc Jacobs, created by Marc Jacobs, for Marc Jacobs, shopped by Marc Jacobs, goes unrecognized by his employees,” one user commented.

“Me walking to my old job thinking they’re going to recognize me,” said another.

A third wrote, “She was probably like what a coincidence his name is Marc Jacobs like the store.”

Jacobs recently teamed up with longtime friend Sofia Coppola to debut the filmmaker’s first documentary, A24’s Marc by Sofia. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2025, follows Jacobs for the 12 weeks leading up to his spring 2024 show with backstage footage and reflections on his career milestones.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in March, the designer said he was anxious about the result of the project. “I think we were both nervous about me seeing it for the first time,” Jacobs said. “I mean, Sofia was like, ‘I hope he likes it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh God, it’s hard to look at myself.’ “

Ultimately, he says, he was “really happy with it.” Jacobs recalled, “I remember saying at the end, ‘I like this person. I don’t hate this person at all.’ I felt good about myself after seeing the movie. I was worried that was my big thing was like, ‘Oh God, how am I going to come across with this? What am I going to look like? What is this going to look like?’ “
