DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers begin a big series against an American League Central Division opponent on Friday night.
The Tigers (76-53) play the Kansas City Royals (66-62) at 7:10 p.m. at Comerica Park.
Catcher Jake Rogers; infielders Trey Sweeney and Andy Ibanez; and outfielder Jahmai Jones will be available off the bench. The full lineup is below.
Right-hander Casey Mize (12-4, 3.63 ERA) will start for the Tigers against Royals right-hander Ryan Bergert (0-1, 2.70).
Bergert was acquired at the trade deadline from the San Diego Padres in exchange for catcher Freddy Fermín.
In his last start on Aug. 16 against the Twins, Mize struck out 10 batters over 6 1/3 innings, his highest strikeout total since June 24, 2024, against Philadelphia.
