Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79.
In the hours after her death was confirmed, 911 dispatch audio was obtained and posted by TMZ. The audio release has left fans upset, with many criticizing the outlet for not respecting Keaton and her family during this challenging time.
“Just let the poor woman and the dispatcher on the radio move on from this moment. As someone who spent 12 years taking 911 calls and dispatching ambulances, I’m telling you, no one needs to hear this,” read one comment on TMZ’s Facebook post.
“TMZ We understand 911 calls are public information, but YOU do not have to take advantage of that and broadcast the details. Take the high road,” someone else wrote.
“911 emergency calls should be protected like hipaa privacy laws,” a third Facebook user said.
The 911 audio had all personal information about Keaton, such as her home address, censored out.
Keaton’s cause of death is unclear at this time. According to People magazine, the “Father of the Bride” star’s health had declined rapidly in recent months.
“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” a friend of the actress told the outlet. “It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”
“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening,” the source added.
Keaton is survived by her two children, Dexter Keaton and Duke Keaton.
