Maybe more so than any other genre, indie rock is a celebration of youth, devotion, and friendship, all a large part of the driving force behind Diveboy. The recently revamped band premiere their new music video for “Glory Days” today. Up-tempo and full of positive vibes, the song is a reflection on nostalgia and staying true to yourself and the people who have your back.
The song explores the idea of maintaining a youthful spirit and frame of mind, even as you age. The key to accomplishing this is through being open-minded and embracing change rather than trying to escape it. Many people fall into the tendency to become bitter as they get older. You look back, romanticize what came before, and reflect on how everything was better back in “your day.” Rather than lament for times gone by, Diveboy would like to remind us to stay focused on the present and embrace the future.
Commenting on the accompanying “Glory Days” video clip, the band says:
“The opening narration in the ‘Glory Days’ music video speaks of an unbreakable bond that isn’t weakened by time or distance. This is what we set out to capture: a love letter to the type of friendship that may lie dormant for a while but is always waiting to erupt in love and laughter, picking up exactly where it left off. Partly shot with an early-noughties style camcorder, the video has a warm and nostalgic glow to it.”
Diveboy is the type of band you listen to when you want to brighten your day. They specialize in feel-good songs and anthems, like their recently released summer single “Suntrap.” Previously known as The Burma, the trio features singer Tony O’Donovan, guitarist Peter Piggott, and drummer Cian Doherty. They have a big indie rock sound that is reminiscent of superstar acts like The Killers. They released their debut record Sucker For Stars in 2022, which was followed up by 2023’s Crazy Dreams & Cruel Realities.
From the city of Cork in Ireland, the band has become very popular back home. The proof is in their two albums charting in the Top 5 on the Irish album charts. One of their career highlights was playing Glastonbury last year. As they work to complete their upcoming third album, Diveboy maintains high aspirations, with sing-along indie jams that can make any room of people feel good.
