Famed singer and Palm Springs resident Barry Manilow announced Monday, Dec. 22, that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will reschedule upcoming shows, according to a social media post.
Manilow, 82, said in a statement that he recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Though he was back on stage afterwards at the Westgate Las Vegas, where he has a long-running residency, his doctor ordered an MRI “just to make sure that everything was OK.”
“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” the singer wrote. “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”
He said that doctors do not believe the cancer has spread, and he will be undergoing additional tests to confirm the diagnosis.
“No chemo. No radiation,” he added. “Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
Barry Manilow tour dates rescheduled
Manilow will have a surgery to have the spot removed, but he did not share when that would happen. However, he said it will take a month to recover, which has led to rescheduling his January arena concerts. He posted the new dates for his concerts in his Instagram post.
“In the meantime, I’m counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts on Feb. 12-13-14 and throughout 2026,” the “Copacabana” singer wrote. “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!”
The “Mandy” singer just recently completed his beloved holiday concert series at the McCallum Theatre, benefitting local charities. He spotlighted the performances in his Instagram post, thanking those who purchased tickets and celebrating the local organizations. Previously, Manilow attended late Palm Springs philanthropist Harold Matzner’s celebration of life ceremony in October.
