(NewsNation) — The latest episode between the royal family and Prince Harry will only add more questions as to whether the relationship between both sides can be rekindled.
Harry, the Duke of Sussex, was invited to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the United Kingdom, but the invitation was rescinded days before his trip. The invitation was “withdrawn” after Harry accepted the offer July 4, his spokesperson said via People Magazine.
Sources told the BBC Harry hadn’t responded to the palace’s invitation in time for proper accommodations to be made. He returned to London this week for charity events and to help promote his international veterans competition, the Invictus Games.

The rescission of the invite comes at a tricky time for Harry and the palace, as the timing coincides with an expected high court ruling in one of his privacy lawsuits. The palace has raised concerns Harry staying there could create the appearance the monarchy was somehow connected to or influencing an active legal matter.
Harry’s camp has pushed back, stating palace officials knew about the court timeline as early as last Thursday yet extended the invitation anyway. They argue the legal matter can’t be the real reason the invitation was suddenly pulled.
Prince Harry wants children to spend time with King Charles
King Charles has reportedly been vocal about wanting to see his son and his grandchildren.
Harry has said he wants to reconcile with his 77-year-old father, who is being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer. And he really wants his children, who first met the monarch during celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, to spend time with their grandfather.

Tensions within the House of Windsor have increased ever since Harry and Meghan gave up their royal duties and moved to California to pursue media deals.
The relationship hit a new low after Harry published “Spare,” an explosive memoir that included unflattering depictions of the royal family and allegations of a toxic relationship between the monarchy and the media.
At one point, the tension was so bad between Charles and his son that a source told People Magazine in 2024 the King no longer took Harry’s calls or answered his letters.

“He gets ‘unavailable right now,’” a friend of Harry’s told the magazine in July 2024. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
Harry and Charles reunited in person in September after 18 months apart, indicating their icy relationship thawed.
