See Dolly Parton’s video message after missing event to ‘take it easy’
Dolly Parton thanks IAAPA for hall of fame induction with thoughtful video message, reminisced about early days of Dollywood.
Ahead of her 80th birthday, country music queen Dolly Parton announced a big surprise.
On Jan. 13, Parton shared on social media that a new, star-studded rendition of her song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” will release Jan. 16.
This time, the tune will feature artists Lainey Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire. Producer David Foster will play piano, and The Christ Church Choir will provide backing vocals.
“Proceeds from this recording and music video will benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt,” Parton wrote on Instagram.
The song was originally released in 1977 on the album “New Harvest … First Gathering,” and it became an anthem about finding hope in dark times and the promise of brighter days ahead. It reached No. 11 on the U.S. country music chart.
In 1992, Parton rerecorded the song for the film “Straight Talk.” She revisited the song in 2003, too, for her record “For God and Country.”
The newest version releases only days before Parton’s milestone birthday, which is Jan. 19.
The Grand Ole Opry will celebrate Parton’s birthday Jan. 17 with an “Opry Goes Dolly” special, though Parton said she is unable to attend.
“I just wanted to say how much it means to me that you’re all coming together again this year to celebrate my big ole birthday with some of my songs,” Parton said. “Some of my favorite memories happened right here on stage at the Grand Ole Opry.”
