ALLENTOWN, Pa. — For the first time, Dorney Park has expanded its annual Star-Spangled Nights celebration into a three-day event, giving guests more opportunities to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with patriotic entertainment, specialty food and nightly fireworks.
The celebration, which previously took place only on Independence Day, now runs Friday through Sunday and features live entertainment, patriotic décor, specialty food and beverages, family activities and fireworks each evening.
Guests gathered Friday for the opening day, where one of the featured activities was a pie-eating contest.
Spectators cheered on competitors as they raced to finish their desserts beneath red, white and blue decorations displayed throughout the park.
According to Kim Solis, a park manager at Dorney Park, visitors can also enjoy live performances of the national anthem, patriotic entertainment, special food and drink items and the park’s rides throughout the weekend.
“Dorney Park is 142 years old. So for this park, one of the oldest continuously operating theme parks in the nation, to be doing this presentation while it’s America’s 250th birthday, it’s just a very special time to be here,” Solis said.
Visitors Robby Koster and Kyger Desario said they enjoyed the holiday festivities and especially looked forward to the fireworks that capped off the evening.
“It’s just a great way of bringing everyone together and also reflecting on where we’ve come and just appreciate our history,” Koster said.
Star-Spangled Nights continues through Sunday at Dorney Park.
