PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts and Twilight Music present a double bill this Saturday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m., featuring “the boundary-pushing” Québécois trio É.T.É and “the masterful Celtic guitar duo” Keith Murphy & Yann Falquet. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill. Tickets are $22 in advance, $26 at the door, and $10 for livestream access. Tickets are available at nextstagearts.org.
The evening showcases two distinct but complementary acts, each offering a fresh take on traditional music, according to Next Stage.
É.T.É brings a contemporary perspective to Québécois trad. The trio — violinist Élisabeth Moquin, bouzouki player Thierry Clouette, and cellist Élisabeth Giroux — draws on jazz, progressive rock, and classical influences to reimagine Québécois and Acadian repertoire. The threee are known for their rich vocal harmonies, inventive arrangements, and infectious energy.
Since their 2017 debut Le bois des midnights, É.T.É has earned numerous honors, including the OPUS “Discovery of the Year” award, the Linda Lemay Award, and a GAMIQ “Lucien.” The group has toured widely across Canada, the United States, Scotland, Belgium, and Australia, and released their latest album, Sur ces eaux, in November 2022.
The second half of the double bill features Keith Murphy and Yann Falquet, two leading voices in contemporary Celtic guitar. Their work highlights the rich textures, harmonies, and rhythmic possibilities the guitar has brought to traditional music since the Celtic revival of the 1970s.
As singers, Murphy and Falquet blend Franco and Anglo traditions with depth and nuance. Falquet — known for his work with the acclaimed Québécois trio Genticorum — brings a wealth of French-Canadian songs, while Murphy, a traditional singer and founding member of the trio Nightingale, draws from the musical traditions of Newfoundland, Quebec, and Vermont.
This event is sponsored in part by the Délégation du Québec à Boston.
