The Dover Public Library is proposing the renewal of a 1-mill operating levy for five years, which will appear as Issue 2 on the May 5 ballot.
Library officials said the levy is not a tax increase and would cost about $2 per month for the owner of a home valued at $100,000.
The levy generates $369,156 annually and accounts for about 28% of the library’s total funding.
Funds from the levy are used for operating expenses, including the purchase of materials, programming for all ages and services such as homebound delivery, early literacy programs, summer enrichment programs and technology assistance.
Library officials said that without levy funding, the library would face significant cuts beginning in 2027, including reduced hours, staffing changes, fewer new materials and fewer programs.
The deadline to register to vote in the primary election is April 6, and early voting begins April 7.
The primary election will be held May 5.
