Smoke cancels concert

Poor air quality in Vernon has led to a cancellation of a concert.
Severe wildfire smoke rolling through the North Okanagan has forced the cancellation of tonight’s Downtown Sounds concert in Vernon.
Originally scheduled for Thursday, July 23 at 6 p.m., the event was called off due to deteriorating air quality in the area.
According to the IQ Air Index, Vernon’s air quality reading reached 185 on Thursday, putting it firmly in the “unhealthy” range. At this level, anyone may begin to experience health effects, while sensitive groups, including pregnant individuals and those with respiratory conditions, are advised to avoid outdoor exertion.
Downtown Sounds is a free, weekly summer concert series hosted by the Downtown Vernon Association. Organizers expect next week’s performance to go ahead as planned, weather and air quality permitting.
