Downtown Youngstown buzzes with sports, music and family fun this weekend, featuring Phantoms hockey, YSU basketball, planetarium shows and community events.

Downtown Youngstown will be buzzing this weekend with a full slate of sports, arts and family-friendly events.
Hockey fans can catch the Youngstown Phantoms as they take on Team USA at the Covelli Centre at 7:05 p.m. today and 6:05 p.m. Saturday. Saturday’s matchup will also celebrate Multi-Cultural Night. Both games promise fast-paced USHL action.
Skywatch programs return to The Ward Beecher Planetarium with live presentations exploring the night sky, constellation lore and astronomical events. Shows are scheduled for 8 p.m. today and Saturday. Admission is free, with doors opening 30 minutes before showtime and seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Youngstown State University athletics will also be in the spotlight. The YSU men’s basketball team tips off at home 2 p.m. Saturday, while the women’s team takes the court 1 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be held at the Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.
Families can also enjoy “Explore Our Universe” at The Ward Beecher Planetarium at 2 p.m. Saturday. The interactive program invites guests aboard the Starship Ward Beecher for a real-time tour of the universe. The show is free, with doors opening approximately 30 minutes before start time.
Music lovers can experience the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium. “Fantastique!” celebrates Music Director Erik Ochsner’s appointment with a program featuring works by Wagner, Williams, Sibelius and Berlioz. Basketball takes center stage at 3 p.m. Sunday the Covelli Centre as the Harlem Globetrotters bring their 100th Anniversary World Tour to Youngstown, delivering their signature blend of athleticism, humor and crowd-pleasing entertainment.
At Penguin City Brewing Company, there will be country dancing tonight with lessons beginning at 9 p.m. and open dancing until 2 a.m. On Sunday, Penguin City will offer BYOB (Build Your Own Breakfast) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring vendors, karaoke and brunch.
