The Diary of a CEO host and Dragons’ Den judge Steven Bartlett is looking forward to a happy future together with wellness expert wife-to-be Melanie Lopes after proposing last year
Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett has shared the romantic moment he got down on one knee to ask girlfriend Melanie Lopes to be his wife. The reality show star businessman and the wellness expert are now planning a happy future together.
BBC star Steven, 33, and Melanie first got together in 2016 after connecting on Instagram. And while their romance hit an early stumbling block that lead to a split, they ultimately rekindled their relationship in 2022 and are now set to become husband and wife.
Considering their relationship began on Instagram, it is perhaps not surprising that Steven took to the platform to boast about his happy engagement. And taking to the app on Sunday, he uploaded a string of photos of the happy moment to share with fans and 4.7 million followers.

The podcaster wrote in a gushing caption: “She said Yes. To say I was nervous is an understatement… I could feel my heart racing in my chest. She thought I was away in Europe – but I had snuck into Morocco on Christmas day where she was on holiday with her family.”
He continued: “I asked her mother and father if I could ask her to marry me – then had to build this big hut outside because a thunderstorm was forecast last minute – and then I stepped out and surprised her when she thought she was meeting her fam for dinner. Thankfully she said yes.”
He went on: “10 years ago, I didn’t really understand the concept of marriage as many of you know – I was definitely an ‘avoidant’ – but when you meet the right person, a lot of things start to make a lot of sense.” And after sharing his post, he went back to edit the post to add: “Update: thank you for all the kind words and congratulations!!!”
The images showed on one knee with the ring in his hands while Melanie stood in front of him with her hands clasped in shock on her face. Another image showed them kneeling on the ground affectionately together after she had accepted the proposal.
Further photos showed Melanie smiling warmly while being congratulated and celebrated by her family. The group then sat down together for a celebratory meal, with one snap showing the happy pair smiling at each other as they sat next to each other.
And a close up snap of Melanie’s hand showed her huge engagement ring resting on her wedding finger. The post was met with a wall of congratulations from fans and followers alike who flooded Steven’s comment’s section with positive words.
One follower remarked: “This is so beautiful. When love is right, everything really does come into focus. Congratulations to you both.” Another typed: “Congratulations to you two wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness together.”
Another fan wrote: “This is so wonderful! Massive congratulations.” While one other emotional follower wrote: ” I’m crying again. So happy for you both. God bless this new journey of yours.” Thousands more left positive notes in the comments, while the post itself quickly attracted hundreds of thousands of likes.
Steven has previously gushed over his now wife-to-be and shared details of his plans to ask her to marry him. He previously explained: “About four years ago, she was talking about engagement rings with a friend, and I was looking over her shoulder and looking at the ones she liked, and I was looking at her Pinterest, and saving the ones she said she really liked.
“So, I’ve had this folder in my phone for like three or four years of the ones she said she liked. And we were in New York yesterday, and there’s a jeweller in New York that some of my friends that I really trust told me to go see, and they made the ring for us.”
And he has previously shared his fear of growing old alone, despite his success as a business man. The Diary of a CEO podcast host – who is said to be worth £320 million – said: “Mel helps me anchor.
“And then I’ll have kids and a family and responsibilities and dependencies. And that’s what I think it takes to be a good man, but also a good human being. I’m very excited about depending on other people and having other people depend on me.”
