Drake Says He ‘Pissed off Loser, Storied Journalists’ With Approach to Interviews

If it’s ever felt as though Drake will pop up on a podcast or livestream somewhat out of the blue, that likely has to do with his mindset on selecting interviews. How the five-time Grammy Award winner goes about that process is unique, and it’s also one he’s understandably proud of.

Among the notable podcast appearances was his somewhat off-the-wall sitdown with Bobbi Althoff on The Really Good Podcast in July 2023. Since that time, Althoff has launched a new podcast called Not This Again, and her first episode on Tuesday, Sept. 2, featured none other than Drake himself.

Drake Opens up About First Bobbi Althoff Interview, How It ‘Pissed off’ Some People

While Drake and Althoff discussed several topics, including their brief falling out, the 38-year-old musician also gave insight into joining various podcasts and livestreams as a guest. Before that, though, he spoke about the first conversation he and Althoff had and the reaction some people had to it.

“Essentially just recognizing somebody that I never met in my life, that I fully believed in, that I thought was really interesting and I wanted to have an interesting conversation with,” Drake said. “It pissed off so many, like, all these f—ing losers, these ‘storied journalists,’… who feel so entitled to this interview, and [says] ‘Drake never does anything for this type of media.’”

Drake segued into explaining how the first random interview between the two, along with his decision to conduct unique interviews and livestreams, has influenced other musicians.

Drake Explains Unique Approach to Choosing Podcasts, Livestreams & Interviews

Drake explained his belief that the initial interview, “just based on random energy,” had an impact on many celebrities and how they approach interviews currently. He also stated that the podcast appearance angered many other people in the process.

“It just made people so angry that two people who actually have maybe nothing to talk about, or everything to talk about. But just based on random energy, could come together. I think it changed a lot of things,” Drake said.

“It changed a lot of things like on TikTok, it changed a lot of things in the streaming world,” he continued. “It made people more comfortable to go sit down with somebody that they’ve never sat down with before.

“Not to take overly take credit, but when I do see somebody who keeps to themselves, like a Nicki Minaj, go to Kai Cenat’s house, or I see these musicians go to a guy like PlaqueBoyMax’s studio and start making songs with him.”

Ultimately, Drake summarized his mindset on the decision-making process behind choosing interviews. In short, he was candid about the fact that he doesn’t want to be an “unattainable d—head” who only does interviews with curated questions.

“I feel like we did usher in the idea that you can be from two different walks of life. Celebrities are not like [up] here,” he stated, insinuating they’re not above other people. “The goal is not to be some unattainable d—head for your whole life and only sit with Zane Lowe while he asks you the most curated and formal questions, no disrespect to him.”

It’s a great approach for a celebrity to have, and his comments have stood true in recent years. While he’s taken part in several podcasts and livestreams, one noteworthy appearance came in Dec. 2024, when he joined streamer Adin Ross.
