If you’re a woman who lived through the ’90s, chances are your eyebrows are still suffering the consequences.
Beloved actress and TV host Drew Barrymore, 50, who rose to superstardom as a child actor in films like Irreconcilable Differences and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, became a Hollywood heavyweight after her comeback in the ’90s. But during that time period, when she starred in films like Poison Ivy, Boys on the Side, and Scream, she also adopted a few trademark looks that those of us outside of Hollywood would latch onto like glue. Take her overplucked eyebrows, for example. The film star was known for her thin brows during this time period, and girls all over the world were eager to tweeze like their lives depended on it.
In a new Instagram post, Barrymore posted a fun throwback photo in honor of National Brow Day that should make any woman who’s still attempting to get her eyebrows to grow back normally itch with discomfort.
“I heard I just missed national brow day! Sometimes I miss these brows…,” Barrymore captioned the photo, which showed the blonde beauty glaring at the camera with her overplucked brows penciled in.
Commenters Recalled Their Horrible Brow Moments
In the comments section, many followers had plenty to say about their brow trauma, and the difficulty they had trying to grow their eyebrows back after years of over-tweezing like Barrymore’s brows in the photo.
“You’re the reason none of us have eyebrows in our 40s😂😂 icon,” one person said.
“No! You’re not allowed to convince us this is in style…AGAIN! We spent years trying to grow them back!” another joined in.
“You’re so lucky.. Mine never grew back 😢😂x,” someone else said.
The Hardest Decades of Her Life
During Thursday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore reflected on some of her most difficult moments with guest Matthew McConaughey.
“From 10 to 20 was the hardest decade of my life. I made a lot of mistakes. I had to pick myself back up. It was messy as can be. It’s my favorite decade,” she recalled.
“Forty to 50 was also when I didn’t think it could get any harder than that,” she said. “And a lot of things happened in my life — especially once kids are involved — I was like, ‘Oh, there is room under bottom. A whole bunch of it! And I just found it.’”
While she didn’t get too descriptive, Entertainment Weekly surmised that Barrymore was referring to her split from husband Will Kopelman in 2016, when she was 41.
Despite the hardships, Barrymore came out the other end much stronger.
“I put in a decade of self-improvement, self-awareness, and radical changes,” she said. “So all this work led up to, ‘Oh my god, time is our most precious commodity.’”
The Drew Barrymore Show is Thriving
Barrymore isn’t just thriving personally these days. Things are going great for her professionally, as well. The Drew Barrymore Show kicked off its sixth season to double-digit ratings growth in its second week back on air, The Wrap reported earlier this week. The show averaged 1.45 million viewers during the week of Sept. 15, marking a 22% uptick in total viewers when compared to last year.
