Drone show lights up night sky during UMaine homecoming celebration

ORONO, Maine (WABI) – What is said to be the largest drone light show in Maine is taking to the sky in Orono this weekend.

Friday night, drones lit up the sky above the University of Maine campus.

Students, families, and members of the community all got a front row seat to see the constellations come together in honor of homecoming weekend.

The brains behind the operation belong to Themis Violaris, who founded Los Angeles-based Grizzly Entertainment back in 2019.

For Violaris, a graduate of Maine, being able to do this at his alma mater has been a long time coming.

“We didn’t want to come from the beginning, we wanted to wait a little bit to get better,” he said {Being} Based in California, in Los Angeles, it gave us the opportunity to become one of the best companies in the US. We’re one of the few companies that can support shows above a thousand drones. We own all of our equipment, we don’t lease any of the equipment. So, we wanted to get ready, we wanted to get better. And I think that was the right opportunity during homecoming week to come and enjoy a beautiful homecoming weekend with the rest of the people.”
