Each January, Dublin comes alive with the sound of fiddles, flutes, and bodhráns as TradFest, Ireland’s largest traditional music festival, takes over the city.

Rooted in the historic streets of Temple Bar and spreading across iconic venues such as St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, and City Hall, TradFest offers overseas visitors a chance to experience Irish culture at its most vibrant.

Unique Dublin Venues

Concerts are staged in atmospheric settings that highlight Dublin’s rich heritage. From the soaring acoustics of cathedrals and churches to intimate gigs in theatres and community spaces, each performance is infused with a sense of place. Visitors can enjoy music in venues that are as memorable as the performances themselves.

A Festival of Tradition and Innovation

TradFest is more than a showcase of traditional Irish music — it’s a celebration of identity and creativity. The festival brings together established legends of Irish folk and trad alongside emerging performers who are redefining the genre for new audiences. With its mix of live concerts, cultural events, and digital broadcasts, the festival connects Irish music lovers worldwide.

Programme Highlights:

Féile Kíla — a high‑energy performance from one of Ireland’s most innovative bands.

Transatlantic Women – featuring Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Sharon Shannon, Peggy Seeger, Eleanor McEvoy, Kaia Kater and more, linking Irish music with American folk traditions.

Hothouse Flowers joined by Susan O’Neill, Steve Wall & The Discovery Gospel Choir — a powerful fusion of rock, gospel, and folk.

Julie Fowlis, Zoë Conway, Éamon Doorley & John McIntyre — a collaboration bridging Irish and Scottish traditions.

The Dublin Legends & Derek Warfield and The Young Wolfe Tones — keeping Ireland’s ballad tradition alive.

For visitors, TradFest offers the perfect reason to explore Dublin in winter. The city’s cultural quarter buzzes with energy, pubs and cafés spill over with music sessions, and the festival atmosphere warms the chill of January. It’s a chance to experience Ireland’s capital in a unique way — through the heartbeat of its music.

TradFest 2026 runs from 21st to 25th January, with performances across Dublin.
