Durand Jones & the Indications may have started underground, but their retro-soul sound has since started a movement on the national stage.
Formed in 2012 by singer Durand Jones, drummer Aaron Frazer and guitarist Blake Rhein, the group recorded their 2016 self-titled debut from a basement when they were still students at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Though they never intended to continue a career as a band, they received such support from critics and independent record stores that they wound up going on tour in 2017, with Steve Okonski joining as organist and Michael Montgomery eventually joining as bassist in 2019.
