Dancing with the Stars alum Cheryl Burke was forced to share an apology on social media after a video where she celebrated a glam transition amid her 40-pound weight loss used a gunshot sound effect–on the same day that a shooter opened fire at a Minneapolis Catholic School, killing two children and injuring 18 others.

Burke shared the video on her account, which showed her transition as part of her “glam” routine.

However, the former pro who ended her podcast earlier this year later took the video down as she faced backlash for it following the news of the shooting.

Now, after removing the clip, she has also addressed it in a massive apology.

Taking to her Instagram, the dancer posted a lengthy missive sharing her sorrow over having shared the clip.

“I want to take a moment to acknowledge something very important. Less than an hour ago, In posted a transition video that included the sound of a gun,” she wrote. “At the time I was completely unaware of the horrific school shooting that took place today in Minneapolis at a Catholic school.”

After explaining she had already removed the post, she went on to share regret over any pain it might have caused.

“I want to be clear…that does not erase the reality that my post could have caused pain, discomfort or even retraumatization for those affected by [the] tragedy. For that, I am deeply sorry.”

“I never want my content–no matter the intent–to feel careless or disconnected fro the world we live in,” she continued, saying she took “full responsibility” for what she put out into the world and this served as a reminder to be more mindful of “timing and impact.”

“I know words cannot undo harm, but I hope this message makes clear that I am holding myself accountable and moving forward with more awareness and sensitivity.”

Fans quickly jumped into the comments section, commending her for taking the post down, but assuring her she hadn’t been in the wrong because the post wasn’t intentional.

“You were unaware of the tragedy when you posted. It could have happened to any of us. Please do not feel guilty for the post. We love you Cheryl!” one wrote.

“I didn’t get to see the aforementioned content. And while no apology is necessary, it’s very sweet that you had the empathy to recognize that–even though unrelated–it could have been triggering given what happened today. The fact that you chose to remove it, even when you didn’t have to, just reflects who you truly are on the inside,” another added.

The post Burke deleted came just after an armed shooter opened fire at the church of the Annunciation in Minneapolis, where a Catholic school is located. The shooter allegedly fired dozens of rounds into the church’s stained glass windows, and was armed with a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol–of all which were legally purchased.

The shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman–as transgender woman, died at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A motive is not immediately clear.

There have been over 300 mass shootings in the United States in 2025 thus far, including 57 at K-12 schools, according to research from the nonprofit organization, Everytown for Gun Safety.
