Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough made his red carpet debut as the host of the celebrity TV news series Extra at the 77th annual Emmy Awards.
Hough turned heads in a sleek black tuxedo, with a white shirt, dress shoes and no socks on the red carpet. On his lapel, he accessorized with a brooch featuring two stars connected with a chain.
This marks the six-time mirrorball champion’s first time attending the Emmy Awards as the host of Extra. He stepped into the role on September 8, 2025, aligning with the premiere of the show’s 32nd season.
The professional dancer gave fans a glimpse of his Emmys prep on Instagram, starting with a playful shower scene before the video quickly transitioned to his red-carpet look, all set to Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “When Did You Get Hot.”

Hough captioned the video “Emmys baby” as he posed in front of Extra’s prime red carpet spot. There, he will be interviewing celebrities throughout the evening.
The Dancing With the Stars judge is no stranger to the red carpet. He is a multiple Emmy winner for his work on the ABC reality competition dance series.
According to the Television Academy’s website, Hough has been nominated 13 times overall. He has won four times; his most recent win was in the Outstanding Choreography category in 2023 for the routine “Higher.”
He holds the title of the most awarded male ballroom dancer in Dancing With the Stars history. Hough joined the show as a pro in Season 5 back in 2007 and competed until 2016. In 2020, he returned to the franchise as a judge, a role he continues to hold today.
The dance pro earned his first Emmy in 2013 for the routine “Hey Pachuco / Para Los Rumberos / Walking on Air,” followed by a win in 2015 for “Elastic Heart.” He went on to win again in 2021 for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming, and most recently in 2023.
The new season of Dancing With the Stars begins on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+. The series streams on Hulu the next day.
