Dancing with the Stars Season 34 could be shaping up to be very competitive, but that doesn’t mean a few teams seem less likely than others to win the Mirroball trophy.
The ABC show has announced its stellar cast, which includes athletes, musicians, actors, and other television personalities who are all determined to win.
But while some celebrities seem like major shoo-ins to win the Mirrorball for various reasons, others may fall short for a number of factors of their own.
While many celebs can feel like front-runners, others seem more likely to fall short on a win because of things like age, built-in fanbases, and sometimes, even the pro they’re partnered with.
Here are the celebrities who seem to be the underdogs for Season 34.
Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko
While going into the competition with a decent social media following and Baldwin’s major advantage of already having some background in ballroom dance, this duo does not seem likely to make it very far in the competition.
While she is one of the bigger names that signed up on the cast, and Gleb has yet to clinch a Mirrorball in his prior 12 seasons as a pro–the odds seem very stacked against their favor, as fans already fumed early on that they “can’t stand” Baldwin, and Gleb also faced backlash after he was brought back and Sasha Farber wasn’t–despite what many saw as disparaging remarks against the show when he claimed he had been fired.
With many likely eager to see them be the first team eliminated, it doesn’t seem as if the competition will be a long one for them.
Andy Richter and Emma Slater
While fans may want to see Andy Richter bust a move, and Emma is a long-favorite among the pros, the odds don’t look good for them to win a Mirrorball trophy either.
Unfortunately for the comedian and actor, he is the oldest celebrity in the cast, and while only 58, that puts him at a distinct disadvantage over others, many of whom are in their 20s. Robert Irwin is the youngest celebrity in the cast at 21.
VegasInsider, which has already released its odds, has also pegged Richter as a long shot to win, with +400 odds of elimination, and an implied probability of 20%.
Baron Davis and Britt Stewart
Finally, though some seriously impressive dance moves and work ethic could help propel him into dark horse status, Baron Davis and Britt Stewart likely have some huge hurdles to overcome in order to have a chance at the Mirrorball.
It is a crowded field of seemingly hot contenders, as many of the other celebrities have a massive following on social media, indicating their built-in fanbase can be huge. While impressive footwork could help woo some votes his way, Baron and Britt are lagging way behind when it comes to a potential built-in fan base, with only a combined 645,000 Instagram followers. His lack of an official TikTok account can also hurt them, as the show has been actively courting a younger audience that relies on the platform. If that demographic is casting the most votes, it makes the NBA legend and his partner easy to forget–and they could get lost in the shuffle as a result.
Dancing With the Stars Season 34 premieres Sept. 16 on ABC and Disney+.
