Dwyane Wade‘s son Zaire Wade has been charged with a felony following his domestic violence arrest.
Zaire, 24, was charged on Thursday, July 9, with felony injuring a cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent, according to NBC4.
In the complaint, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman alleged that Zaire “willfully inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” upon the victim, whose identity has not been revealed.
According to the filing, Zaire was in a romantic relationship with the alleged victim before the incident. His arraignment is scheduled for July 16.
Us Weekly confirmed in June that Zaire was arrested following an alleged domestic violence dispute.
Records showed that police responded to a 911 call about a woman who was allegedly screaming. Upon arriving at the home, police found Zaire and the woman, who reportedly had “lacerations on her face and body.”
The woman did not go to the hospital after being treated by paramedics. Zaire, meanwhile, was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment.
A handgun was taken from the house following his arrest and an emergency protective order was put into place. Zaire was released hours later on $50,000 bond.
“He was arrested and booked for domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment,” a spokesperson for the Burbank Police said in a statement at the time.
Dwyane, 44, shares Zaire and daughter Zaya, 19, with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. He welcomed daughter Kaavia, now 7, with his current wife, Gabrielle Union.
The former NBA star also shares son Xavier, 12, with Aja Metoyer and was the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris, 21.
Dwyane has not addressed his son’s legal issues. He previously praised Zaire while discussing how his family helped him during a health scare.
“My son Zaire said to me, he was watching me walk to the bathroom, he was [saying] I’m Superman,” Dwyane said on Today in 2024 about his battle with kidney cancer one year prior. “He never saw me that way before.”
He continued: “It sounds crazy because those are the ones that are supposed to be there in those moments of weakness, but you don’t want them to see you in that space.”
