The Reading Royals have re-signed defenseman Artem Kulakov for the 2026-27 season. Kulakov, 23, had three goals and seven assists for 10 points, along with 150 PIMs in 66 games, after being acquired by the Allen Americans in late August. He would add 10 PIMs in five games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Russian defenseman will continue to bring some physicality for the Royals on the blueline. Reading now has three defensemen and one forward signed for the 2026-27 season.
Prior to joining the Royals, Kulakov spent time with the Worcester Railers and Allen Americans. In 68 games with the Railers, he had five goals and nine assists for 14 points. During his only season with the Americans, he had five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 49 games.
Kulakov began his career in Russia, playing one season in the MHL with Omskie Yastreby, where he had four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 29 games. He would make his North American debut in 2021 and spend two seasons in the OHL with the Erie Otters. Over the course of his two seasons with the Otters, he had five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 102 games.
