Pop star Ed Sheeran is looking noticeably more fit these days. The “Shape of You” singer recently sat down for a conversation with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show Andy Cohen Live and explained the inspiration behind his new “shredded” look. He also gave an update on how he’s maintaining his healthier lifestyle.
While promoting his new album Play, which was released on September 12, Sheeran visited Cohen’s show, where the Watch What Happens Live host couldn’t help but comment on Sheeran’s trimmed-down appearance.
“You’re looking shredded right now,” Cohen asked Sheeran. “To what do we owe this?”
With his signature humble demeanor intact, Sheeran explained that his desire to have six-pack abs for the first time in his life—following weight gain last year—inspired him to hit the gym and cut back on beer.
“The start of the year and I went, uh, basically I got—I put on a load of weight last year and I was like, I’m gonna hit the gym heavy, um, try and lose a stone. And then as I was doing that I was like, let’s see how far I can take this. I’ve never actually ever had a six-pack in my life and I was like, I’m going to see if I can do it,” Sheeran explained.
Cohen followed up by asking Sheeran how he’s been maintaining his new physique. Sheeran shared a completely relatable answer, saying, “I keep messing up because I keep—I keep—I keep being out somewhere being like, I’ll have a couple of beers. And it just—so, you know. But I’d say it’s going alright. I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Ed Sheeran Gave a Speech at Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Wedding
In addition to the joy of “getting in the best shape” of his life, Sheeran may have had even more motivation to look his best:Selena Gomez’s wedding to music producer Benny Blanco. Not only was Sheeran a guest alongside Hollywood heavyweights like Taylor Swift, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, but he’s said to have given a speech during the wedding, as did Swift.
Gomez and Blanco wed on Saturday, September 28, in a private Southern California ceremony. The bride and groom shared a stunning series of photos of their wedding-day looks shortly after their ceremony, but have yet to release party pictures featuring guests like Sheeran.
