BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — World-renowned bassist Edgar Meyer will be part of a special trio performing at the Alabama School of Fine Arts next month.
Meyer, a double bassist whose music has encompassed both the classical and bluegrass world, will play with violinist Tessa Lark and cellist Joshua Roman at ASFA’s DJD Theater Nov. 14.
“This collaboration brings together three singular figures in American concert music—virtuoso instrumentalists with fierce classical chops, deep connections to roots and fiddle music, and wide-open artistic sensibilities,” a press release on the event read.
Meyer has been nominated for 17 Grammy Awards, winning seven for his work with everyone from Chris Thile to Bela Fleck and Zakir Hussain, Yo-Yo Ma and many others. During the 2011-12 concert season, Meyer was composer in residence with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, with whom he performed his “Concerto for Double Basa and Orchestra in E.”
The evening at ASFA is set to include material from Bach and Meyer’s own compositions.
