Chart-topping country star Ella Langley is taking the stage at Kid Rock’s ‘MAGA festival’ held in Bellville, Texas, this weekend leaving many to wonder how the choice could impact her music career.
On Friday, May 1, the 26-year-old singer is taking the stage at Rock the Country festival ahead of headliner Jason Aldean. The music fest has been dubbed by many as a “MAGA fest” do to its political leaning, as the festival founder is a vocal President Donald Trump supporter.
And as she makes this decision, one PR expert has shared his professional take on the choice and whether or not he believes it will have a long-lasting impact on her music career.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Express US, music executive/PR Strategist and Head of Popularity PR John Kwatayke-Atiko said, “Festival booking from the public viewpoint is solely based on ideology. In contrast, today’s music industry has a ruthless focus on finance.”
He continued, “Touring costs are very costly. Therefore when a new artist such as Ella Langley is booked to play a spot at Kid Rock’s Rock the Country festival – the most important factor was likely not a political statement — but rather the financial calculation. An artist will generally tour wherever there is money available, and/or wherever the artist can tour in front of large crowds of proven fans of country music.”
In addition to Ella partaking in Kid Rock’s MAGA festival, many social media users recently noticed that Langley was following The Charlie Kirk Show on TikTok. While this does not prove that she is a supporter of Kirk, he was known for his bigoted and far-right politicial views ahead of his death.
Weighing in on this move, the PR expert said, “Engaging with people such as Charlie Kirk, or performing at a “MAGA-branded” festival is a viable way for an artist to acquire a new audience within this particular genre. What may have been considered a career-ending crisis for an artist who performs in the world of mainstream pop or hip-hop, would be viewed as a huge commercial advantage by many in the country and heartland rock community.”
Kwatayke-Atiko continued, “This audience is extremely loyal and also financially empowered – they spend money on merchandise, concert tickets and streaming services in support of artists they believe reflect their own cultural identity.”
While Ella has been loosely tied to MAGA due to these public choices, she has not publicly showcased her support for Trump or the Republican party.
Closing out his thoughts on Ella’s currently thriving music career, Kwatayke-Atiko said, “Many people seem to forget that a professional artist’s management team is only concerned with one thing – data. If a festival represents an opportunity for an artist to access a rabid, and highly converting fan base, then the artist will be interested in taking that opportunity.
“The current backlash against Ms. Langley will generate a significant amount of national publicity at no cost to Ms. Langley, and will further solidify her relationship with her existing and potentially lucrative target audience.”
