Elton John reveals he’s working on new songs with Bernie Taupin

Elton John may be making his first new solo studio album in a decade.

Elton John has been incredibly busy in recent years on the road.

He racked up 330 concerts in five years as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, and is still playing the occasional one-off live show, too.

Despite that punishing schedule, he’s not completely stayed away from the studio, either.

He’s mainly focused on collaborative projects, though, with 2021’s duets album The Lockdown Sessions and then this year’s Who Believes in Angels? album recorded with Brandi Carlile.

But now it seems as though Sir Elton may be working on what could become his first solo studio album since 2016’s Wonderful Crazy Night.

We’re not counting the belated 2021 release of Regimental Sgt Zippo, which was recorded in 1968 and 1969 and originally scrapped in favour of what would become his deubt Empty Sky.

John is actually planning to get in the studio and work with some lyrics from his long-time collaborator Bernie Taupin, with a little bit of help not just from producer Andrew Watt but also his husband David Furnish.

“I’ve got seven new lyrics from Bernie, and David read them to me the other night and they’re really, really good,” Elton said.

“So I can’t wait to go in the studio with Andrew and just write and see what happens.”

As for why David has to read the lyrics, that’s because of Sir Elton’s continued visual issues.

“It’s been devastating,” he said of his eye issues.

“Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything.

“I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine.
