Emily in Paris will be back for Season 5 — sooner than you think. The Paris and now-Venice set rom-com series is returning later this year. On August 20, Netflix dropped first look photos and revealed the Season 5 premiere date.
The show, which premiered in 2020, has become one of Netflix’s darlings, with millions of viewers tuning in to Emily’s (Lily Collins) expat adventures. Here’s a rundown of everything we know about Emily in Paris Season 5.
When is Emily in Paris Season 5 coming back?
Emily in Paris will return for Season 5 on December 18. All 10 episodes will drop on the premiere date.
Collins announced the Season 5 renewal on September 16, 2024, during her spot on Good Morning America. “There is breaking news!” the actress said. “For the first time, I get to talk about the fact that there will be a Season 5. Yay!” She revealed that she and the cast “just found out” about the show’s renewal. “This is brand-new for everyone.”
Variety reported in November 2025 that Season 5 would begin shooting the first week of May next year. The show will still film in Paris, but it will also partly shoot in Rome. In April 2025, the outlet revealed that Season 5 production will start in Rome before moving back to Paris later in the summer.

“Well, let’s see how long they want us for,” creator Darren Star previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “To me, great characters on a great series are like, I have a hard time letting go and saying goodbye. They always take you places. If you look at Sex and the City, it’s still happening 25 years later.”
Star previously stated that he envisions the show going beyond Season 4. “It’s not necessarily conceived as a final chapter,” he told Deadline. “I think like every other show, it’s a rich ensemble. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end. And I don’t think this show is limited by a number of seasons. I think it’s limited by everybody’s enthusiasm and excitement about doing it and telling stories about these characters because I think the world, especially after Season 3, the universe of the show is expanded because we have such a fantastic ensemble of characters and the show, it’s Emily In Paris, but I think it’s moved beyond just Emily in Paris, which is exciting.”
There was confusion in May 2024 when Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson appeared at the amfAR Gala during the Cannes Film Festival and auctioned off a walk-on role in Emily in Paris Season 5, according to Variety. The auction winner paid €250,000 to appear in the series and the chance to attend the Season 4 premiere in Los Angeles. Harlow and Jackson stated that the fifth season would start shooting in mid-2025.
At the time, a source told the site that Netflix hadn’t picked up the series for Season 5 yet. The amfAR auction website has since been updated to state that the winning bid “will have the opportunity to spend a day on set in Paris during filming, contingent upon Season 5 pickup.”
Who will return for Emily in Paris Season 5?
Well, there’s no Emily in Paris without Emily. Lily Collins will return as the American expat. Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Ashley Park, Paul Forman, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, William Abadie, Samuel Arnold, and Bruno Gouery will be a part of the main cast.

One notable cast member not returning full-time is Camille Razat. It’s unclear if Camille will return at all in Season 5. Thalia Besson, who first appeared as Geneviève in Season 4, hasn’t signed on to be back for Season 5 as of now.
Bravo’s status with the series was called into question after a recent interview. He told IndieWire that his character has been “slowly turned into guacamole.” He added, “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. I’ve never been so far away from him.”
The French actor noted that “there is only so much I can do in the limits of a script” and said he “tried for seasons to bring nuances but we don’t have much liberty on set. We cannot change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply.”
Despite his feelings about the trajectory of Gabriel, Variety reported that Bravo was “definitely on track to star in Season 5 as of now,” and his “Michelin-rated restaurant will be one of the backdrops of the upcoming season.”

“We’ve been talking about – earlier – about having Kim Cattrall, manifesting her presence on Emily in Paris,” Bravo told IMDb. “But it would imply that there’s a substantial role for her to take on, and also [for] her to say yes to that idea. But I’ve been floating all day and dreaming about that opportunity, and I hope it happens.”
What happened in Emily in Paris Season 4?
In Part 1, after seasons of waiting, Emily and Gabriel finally got together. They made things official despite Gabriel expecting a baby with Camille. At the end of Part 1, Camille discovered she wasn’t pregnant (and never had been) but didn’t tell Gabriel the news until Part 2. Camille later decided to adopt a child and become a single mother.
As for Alfie, don’t count him out yet regarding Emily. “I think there’s always hope for Alfie,” Laviscount told TV Insider. At the masquerade ball in Part 1, Alfie kissed someone he believed was Emily and admitted he still has feelings for her. “I don’t think that’s all we’re going to see from Alfie,” he added. In Part 2, Alfie moved on with a new girlfriend, but he later told Gabriel that Emily’s “the best girl in the world.”
The second half of Season 4 took the show in a new direction. After Emily’s breakup with Gabriel, she decided to go on a new adventure. She traveled to Rome with her hunky new suitor, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), and Sylvie offered her a new job to keep her in Italy.
What will happen in Season 5?
Emily decided to take Sylvie’s opportunity, so does that mean the show’s moving to Rome? “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome,” Star told Tudum. “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
Sorry, Gabriel fans. Marcello isn’t going anywhere. “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance, Collins said. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”
Star added, “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”
What does that mean for Emily and Gabriel? He ended things with Emily before she took off for Rome. “Unfortunately,” Collins teased, “Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice.”
