Emma Watson has opened up about her strained relationship with Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
The Hollywood star admitted what she finds most hurtful about their strained relationship in a new chat with life coach Jay Shetty for his podcast.
Emma, 35, opened up about her life and career while chatting to Jay, who eventually drew the conversation to the topic of JK and their well-documented relationship struggles.
Speaking on the topic, she said, “I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, means that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with.”
She continued, “I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish I to come back to our earlier thing. Like I just don’t think these things are either or.
She wrote on x, “Decent men will stay out, as they always have, so we can assume all who don’t are a threat, given their disregard for women’s and girls’ safety, privacy and dignity. Photographing, reporting and disseminating such men’s images online will be a piece of cake.”
Her statement caused an uproar, with one follower responding, “JK Rowling now openly incites public harassment of trans women and others who don’t meet her personal test of ‘decency.’ Photographing strangers and posting their image online as presumed threats? That’s not feminism. It’s a vigilante call to action, rooted in paranoia.”
Rowling has since defended her actions, saying, “Everyone has the right to say and believe whatever they like about themselves. I simply disagree that society should abandon all sex-based safeguarding and rights in favour of laws and norms based on subjective, unfalsifiable feelings.”
