Emmy awards for Frost School alumni

A pair of Frost School of Music alumni made it to the winner’s circle in this year’s Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards. Alberto Bade won for his hosting role on MDC-TV’s “Video Game Concert 2025,” which won in the category of “Special Event Coverage – Edited.” And Carlos “Carlitos” Lopez, who served as audio producer of the Palm Beach Symphony’s “The Carnival of MORE Animals,” won for “Audio – Live or Post Production.” The awards, recognizing excellence in television in Florida, plus Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico, were presented this month.

Lopez and Bade are two of the most notable recent alumni of the Frost School’s renowned conducting program. Bade earned his Frost doctorate in the spring of 2025, and will receive an Artist Diploma next May. He is a professor and orchestral director at Miami Dade College, where he oversees the MDC Symphony Orchestra.

Before coming to the Frost School, Lopez already had a notable career in his native Colombia as a pianist and educator. A triple Frost School alumnus, he earned a doctorate in classical conducting in 2023. Beyond school, he has amassed a far-flung list of credits in the pop as well as classical music worlds, including orchestra leader for the 2024 “Most Wanted” concert tour by Bad Bunny (who will be the halftime show headliner at the 2026 Super Bowl.)

At the Frost School, Lopez and Bade both studied conducting under professor Gerard Schwarz, who also serves as music director of the Frost Symphony Orchestra and Palm Beach Symphony. In the latter capacity, Maestro Schwarz was twice nominated himself in this year’s Suncoast Regional Emmys.

“I am so proud of my two students, Alberto Bade and Carlos Lopez, for winning Emmy awards this season,” said Schwarz.

“They are two remarkable musicians, and I am so proud of their accomplishments and the recognition they so richly deserve. We at the Frost School are thrilled for these wonderful artists.”
