Cinemata holds first community gathering

THIS YEAR marks an important milestone for Cinemata, which will be hosting its first-ever “community convening,” bringing together filmmakers, curators, educators, technologists, researchers, advocates, and cultural workers from across the Asia-Pacific region. The gathering will serve as a space for dialogue, exchange, and collective planning around the future of public-interest storytelling, community-driven curation, digital rights, and independent film circulation in the region. It will also mark the public launch of Cinemata 3.0, the newest iteration of the platform developed through collaborations across multiple countries. Participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, and Australia will be present. The convening takes place on June 10 and 11 at the University of the Philippines BGC Campus in Taguig City.


QCinema Pride Film Fest returns with 7 films

THE QCinema Pride Film Festival returns this June with a lineup of seven acclaimed LGBTQIA+ features from nine countries, bringing together stories of love, identity, desire, belonging, and resistance. One is the big screen return of the Philippine erotic psychological drama Dreamboi, written and directed by Rodina Singh, which won nine awards at the CineSilip Film Festival. The program also includes 3670, a South Korean drama from Park Joon-ho about a queer North Korean defector that won four awards at the Jeonju International Film Festival. Lesbian Space Princess, a science-fiction comedy animation from Australian writing-directing duo Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese, will also be screened. Mike Nichols’ comedy classic The Birdcage represents influential mainstream queer cinema of the 1990s. The QCinema Pride Film Festival will take place from June 24 to 26 at Gateway Mall 2 in Cubao, Quezon City. Full screening schedules, ticketing information, and festival updates will be announced through the festival’s official channels.


Disney+, Shanghai Disneyland offers promo

ONGOING until July 21 is a promo for new Disney+ subscribers. Consumers who subscribe to a Disney+ Annual Plan (Basic or Premium) will automatically get a chance to win a dream vacation to Shanghai Disneyland. Fifteen winners will each receive round-trip economy flights from Manila to Shanghai, a three-day-two-night stay at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and three-day Shanghai Disneyland General Admission Park tickets for four. Visa fees and other incidental travel expenses are excluded.


Rakuten Viki marks Pride Month with new BL shows

GLOBAL streaming platform Rakuten Viki is bringing two BL (boys’ love) titles to fans in the Philippines and Thailand for Pride Month. First is the third and latest installment of the Korean BL franchise Love Class, which follows aspiring idols navigating friendship, ambition, and romance amid the pressures of the entertainment industry. Second is The Lie We Lived In, a genre-defying BL thriller that weaves mystery, crime, and forbidden romance into one story. Both titles are available to stream on Viki in the Philippines and Thailand.


Scary Movie to open in the Philippines this June

THE SIXTH installment of Scary Movie will see the Core Four of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall reunite in the franchise for the first time in 25 years. It debuted over the weekend to a franchise-best $105 million worldwide and is set to arrive in the Philippines on June 10. Directed by Michael Tiddes, it is rated R-16 and will have no cuts in local cinemas.


The Script adds 3rd Manila show after selling out

DUE TO overwhelming demand, the multi-awarded platinum-selling Irish band The Script has announced a third and final show on March 20, 2027, for its world tour MAN IN THE ARENA. This, after the sell-out success of the first two concerts slated for March 18 and 19, 2027, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Presented by Wilbros Live and Midas Promotions, tickets for the additional show go on sale on June 13, 10 a.m., via SMTickets.com and SM Tickets outlets nationwide.


LALALAFEST Manila announces lineup, tickets

THE official lineup of the LALALAFEST Manila, which will be held on Aug. 21 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City and curated and presented by Wilbros Live, has been revealed. Musicians performing in the festival are Steve Lacy, Two Door Cinema Club, Flo, Dermot Kennedy, Matthew Ifield Ben&Ben, Maki, Over October, Dilaw, Fitterkarma, Isyana Sarasvati, KIKI, and HOA, bringing together an eclectic mix of international, regional, and local artists in one event. Tickets to the festival will go on sale on June 13 at noon via SMTickets.com and SM Tickets outlets nationwide.


MCAD screens films on displacement, oppression

LAND and human rights are spotlighted in “ST (Southern Tagalog) to SF (San Francisco),” a free screening of documentaries, short-form works, and music videos, as part of MCADxMoving Image, a program of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB). The event looks at culture, society, and politics through the media of the moving image, curated by artist Con Cabrera. It gathers works from multimedia collective Southern Tagalog Exposure from Laguna, Philippines, and housing advocates People Power Media from California, USA. It is free and open to the public, running from June 17 to 19 with screenings at noon. A talkback with the former members of ST Exposure will be held on June 17, moderated by Mary Ann Pernia, MCAD Learning and Special Projects Head. Offshore Music, Rob Cham create Eraserheads merch

FILIPINO independent record label Offshore Music has teamed up with award-winning illustrator and comics creator Rob Cham for special limited-edition merchandise to mark the 30th anniversary of the Eraserheads’ critically acclaimed fourth studio album, Fruitcake. The limited-edition T-shirt features Cham’s modern take on the album’s whimsical world, giving listeners a fresh visual entry point into one of the most important works in Philippine music. The launch of the Rob Cham x Fruitcake 30th anniversary merch line will be at the Offshore Music Bazaar on June 26 at Thai Mookata, Makati City — the same day and venue as the Fête de la Musique Indie Stage.

FANS of ABS-CBN’s hit vertical drama The Chambermaid’s Daughter can now bring a piece of the series into their lives through additional sticker packs and planners following the merch release last May. After the show’s success on iWant, the Alexa Ilacad and Gelo Rivera-starrer is featuring some of the series’ most iconic and fan-favorite lines in its sticker packs. RAMONA drops new single

FOLLOWING the breakout success of her debut song “GAGA,” which garnered more than 300,000 TikTok creations and peaked at No. 60 on the Spotify Viral charts, RAMONA returns to the spotlight with the release of her new single, “Laguna,” out today via Sony Music Entertainment. The track chronicles the messy aftermath of a breakup. It is out now on digital streaming platforms.
