Cinemata holds first community gathering
THIS YEAR marks an important milestone for Cinemata, which will be hosting its first-ever “community convening,” bringing together filmmakers, curators, educators, technologists, researchers, advocates, and cultural workers from across the Asia-Pacific region. The gathering will serve as a space for dialogue, exchange, and collective planning around the future of public-interest storytelling, community-driven curation, digital rights, and independent film circulation in the region. It will also mark the public launch of Cinemata 3.0, the newest iteration of the platform developed through collaborations across multiple countries. Participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, and Australia will be present. The convening takes place on June 10 and 11 at the University of the Philippines BGC Campus in Taguig City.
QCinema Pride Film Fest returns with 7 films
THE QCinema Pride Film Festival returns this June with a lineup of seven acclaimed LGBTQIA+ features from nine countries, bringing together stories of love, identity, desire, belonging, and resistance. One is the big screen return of the Philippine erotic psychological drama Dreamboi, written and directed by Rodina Singh, which won nine awards at the CineSilip Film Festival. The program also includes 3670, a South Korean drama from Park Joon-ho about a queer North Korean defector that won four awards at the Jeonju International Film Festival. Lesbian Space Princess, a science-fiction comedy animation from Australian writing-directing duo Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese, will also be screened. Mike Nichols’ comedy classic The Birdcage represents influential mainstream queer cinema of the 1990s. The QCinema Pride Film Festival will take place from June 24 to 26 at Gateway Mall 2 in Cubao, Quezon City. Disney+, Shanghai Disneyland offers promo
ONGOING until July 21 is a promo for new Disney+ subscribers. Scary Movie to open in the Philippines this June
THE SIXTH installment of Scary Movie will see the Core Four of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall reunite in the franchise for the first time in 25 years. It debuted over the weekend to a franchise-best $105 million worldwide and is set to arrive in the Philippines on June 10. Directed by Michael Tiddes, it is rated R-16 and will have no cuts in local cinemas.

MCAD screens films on displacement, oppression
LAND and human rights are spotlighted in “ST (Southern Tagalog) to SF (San Francisco),” a free screening of documentaries, short-form works, and music videos, as part of MCADxMoving Image, a program of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB). The event looks at culture, society, and politics through the media of the moving image, curated by artist Con Cabrera. It gathers works from multimedia collective Southern Tagalog Exposure from Laguna, Philippines, and housing advocates People Power Media from California, USA.
