Friday, April 3

A Poetry Workshop: Imagination and Resistance – Truckee Library, 10031 Levon Ave, Truckee, CA. Friday, April 3, 2026, 10:30am – 12pm. Including social or historical elements along with your personal experience in a new poem can add layers and relevance. Poems of resistance and imagination will be our guides to find approaches to write about a moment within your own life and to explore how to respond with your own voice to current events happening around you. Moments for Memoirs: Imagination and Resistance – 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m., Truckee Library, 10031 Levon Avenue. Imagination and Resistance These workshops focus on how to capture your memories and structure them into stories to write down for others to enjoy. These workshops will be led by Karen Terrey of Tangled Roots Writing. Karen is the Nevada County Poet Laureate! Pickle Barrel – 9 p.m.-12 a.m., Bar of America, 10040 Donner Pass Rd.. Pickle Barrel is a Truckee-based trio string trio led by multi-instrumentalist Justin Eubanks. Poi Rogers – 7 p.m.-12 a.m., Moody’s Bistro, Bar & Beats, 10007 Bridge St. Somewhere in-between the tropical lounges of 1930s Los Angeles and the honky tonk beer joints of rural 1950s California, you’ll find Poi Rogers. Hailing from Santa Cruz, CA, the duo performs vintage country & cowboy music, Hawaiian steel guitar ballads and trail songs. Poi Rogers features Gerard doubling on standard guitar and his 1954 Fender triple neck steel guitar with Carolyn on standup bass, their timeless harmonies anchoring the show. Last Cabin Party: A Tribute to the Village Gondola – 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m., Sugar Bowl, PO Box 5 – 629 Sugar Bowl Rd.. Join us for one final spin as we celebrate the legacy of Sugar Bowl’s third gondola and kick off the next chapter. From the first ride to the last cabin, this is your chance to be part of it. Let’s send this era off right and ride into the future together. Throughout the Day Keep an eye out across the Village for gondola-themed surprises. We’ll have sticker and pin giveaways, face painting in the Vendor Village inspired by all three gondola eras, and fresh gondola-shaped cookies making their way through the Village. Hop on for a ride and you might just get lucky. Hidden “winning rider” notes will be placed in gondola cars throughout the day. Find one and redeem it at the Chalet for prizes. Spring Scavenger Hunt – 9 a.m.-12 p.m., North Tahoe Regional Park, 6600 Donner Rd. Join us for the Spring Scavenger Hunt for an adventurous hunt, and our spin on a traditional Egg Hunt! Throughout the scavenger hunt participants will: – Search for unique items and our furry, feathered, and flowering friends throughout the recreation area. – Take selfies with the Easter Bunny (10am-12pm) – Search for the GOLDEN EGG …and much more! Tangled Roots Open Mic & Reading Series – 6-7:30 p.m., Alibi Ale Works – Truckee Public House, 10069 Bridge St. Join Nevada County’s Poet Laureate, Karen Terrey, in her new monthly event that invites creatives who are interested in prose, poetry and reading for all ages. Sign up for a 3-minute slot to get on stage to share your work. Karen has some great authors lined up to do exclusive readings as well. This event is free and we can’t wait for you to join us on the second Thursday of each month, featuring poetry, prose, and singer-songwriters. Karen Terrey serves as the Poet Laureate for Nevada County. She’s a writer, editor, and writing coach, offering writing services, developmental editing, publishing guidance, and creative writing workshops in Truckee through her business Tangled Roots Writing for clients of all ages. An alumni of Community of Writers, she teaches English at Sierra College. Her poems have appeared in Rhino, Edge, Meadow, WordRiot, Puerto Del Sol, Wicked Alice, Canary, and Gray Sparrow Journal, among others. Her book Bite and Blood is available from Finishing Line Press and local bookstores, including Word After Word in Truckee.
