AT THE PODIUM

‘Founding Friends, Foes’

Historian Nicole Brown of the International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello; Kurt Graham, president of the Adams Presidential Center; and Kathleen Pate, director of education and public programs for the Clinton Presidential Library & Museum, will take part in the inaugural session of “Founding Friends, Founding Foes: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson,” 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. Admission is free but registration is required. Visit clintonpresidentialcenter.org/events.

The program, which kicks off a national series celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, explores the complex relationship between former presidents Adams and Jefferson, who were at various times friends, allies and bitter, partisan rivals during their 51-year acquaintanceship.

It’s a joint project of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and the Adams Presidential Center and part of the ongoing Clinton Presidential Center Presents series. It draws on Monticello’s successful “Founding Friends, Founding Foes” tour.

Following the panel program, attendees can continue the conversation, 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Little Rock’s Lost Forty Brewing, 501 Byrd St., within walking distance of the Clinton Presidential Center. Guests will connect using Monticello’s specially designed Feast of Reason conversation cards; the first 42 people will receive a complimentary Monticello 250th pint glass.
